Comment: These articles about American cinema at the beggining of the Thirties describe Bryher's attitude towards sound film. The sound film, warned Bryher in the first of these articles, was creating barriers between different cultures: American pictures began to disappear from the European screens and European pictures began to circulate only locally. In other words, the passing from silence to sound had modified the relations between Hollywood and Europe and had marked the beginning of American cinematic supremacy in the world.
